Project List:
1. Pattern(you don't really need a pattern)
2. Fabric-chiffon,sequin stretch,silk(a bit hot),light weight brocade,etc
3. Matching thread-remember if its see through -you don't want your thread showing
4.Trim-not necessary if you have already a pattern on your fabric
Made this dress in less than an hour. I used pajama pattern 4359 from Butterick.
I used pattern letter D-very right pattern on picture above. I only needed 4 yards for the dress and the head scarf. I redid the neckline a bit because I was using glitter dot chiffon and didn't want to put interfacing(see through fabric) so I didn't do the scallop neckline.
I did sew on paillettes trim on the neckline.
I put on a similar looking paillettes on mine. |
I didn't use my serger either since the fabric is delicate so I just did a zig zag serge on my sewing machine. I left the slits on the side since I was putting the dress over a skirt and halter top. I added paillettes trim on the slits and head scarf. I adjusted the sleeve by cutting them a lot wider below the elbow. I can always make it smaller but never bigger.
This pattern is easy-no zipper, buttons, etc. All you do is sew it together. Might be tricky for beginner sewers not experienced with delicate fabrics. If you are a beginner-I suggest you sew one up in some cheap fabric to see how it comes out . Then you adjust and see how it fits before you use your good fabric.
